Super Sonic Sparks 4-H Robotics Club

Home: Welcome

About

In 2007 a handful of parents met at a 4-H meeting and had the idea to start a robotics club. In the beginning, support for the idea was scarce. Luckily, one of those parents – Dave Franc – persisted. And thus, Sparks 4-H Robotics Club was born.
As news of the Club spread, membership grew quickly, and within a year of forming, the 20+ members were looking for opportunities to compete against other robotics teams. The Club decided to sponsor a team, The Super Sonic Sparks (Team 24, aka “s-cubed / S3”), which was one of the very first Vex robotics teams in the world. In 2013, Team 24 added their first two VEX IQ teams.
Throughout all these years, Team 24 has continued to place high in Maryland. We're one of the few VEX teams that have sent at least one of our teams to the World Championship each year. We plan to maintain this streak by growing through the club teams and community demonstrations. Today, we have 45 club members and 17 competition members.
We look forward to continuing to offer youth STEM learning, leadership skills, and character development opportunities through 4-H. We continue to look for chances to be in greater service to the community.

Sponsor and Mentors

Thank you!

Carroll Technology Council

Their website

In November 2017, the Carroll Technology Council awarded a $1,500 donation to the Super Sonic Sparks - Team 24 Robotics Club.  In addition to the cash donation, the CTC also donated 20 computers to assist the team in preparations for upcoming competitions.  There were more than 50 students on this team!  It's WONDERFUL seeing so many involved in STEM programming!

The CTC and the Sparks 4H Robotics Club have a long-standing history, as many of our business members also help to judge their VEX Robotics Competitions!

Thanks to CTC Board Members Denise Beaver of Carroll County Department of Economic Development, David Shaffer of Tier One Technology Partners, Isabel DeFeo of I.M.A. Web Design and Robert Dorr Chair of CTC TechKids who joined our Executive Director the night we made the presentation!
